City of Dublin ETB Adult Education Students swept the boards at the DCU Library Creative Writing Competition 2019. The presentation of awards was held on Tuesday 22nd May 2019 in the Cregan Library, DCU. The overall winner was Victoria UiBhraoin from the Adult Education Service in Ballymun for her poem “The Bees Know.”
The annual creative writing competition is open to adult reading and writing schemes in north Dublin. Candidates are asked to submit a short story or poem from which the DCU Library judging panel chooses a winner and ten commendations. All eleven winners came from various centres of the CDETB Adult Education Service. The centres represented among the winners were:

Abigail Centre, Adult Education Service, Finglas
KLEAR, Adult Education Service, Kilbarrack
There were seventy eight entries from twelve reading and writing groups. Lucinda Jacob, the Head Judge in the competition said, “this winning collection of poems and stories from writers based in North Dublin is a treat in store. From the poignant and heart-warming to the surprising, quirky and scary there is something here for every reader.” The guest judge, Mia Gallagher, award winning Irish author presented the prize for the winning entry and spoke of how she was “moved and privileged to be part of the celebrations.”
