Choose a course that will help you make an informed decision about your future education

September 5, 2013

Malachy Buckeridge, Principal of Coláiste Íde College of Further Education in Finglas says, ‘We advise students who are unsure about what to do next or who may have been disappointed with their Leaving Certificate results that they have many options.  Our courses can prepare you for the world of work or give you a route to third level education. They will also give you a taste for what you think are your interests and help you make an informed decision about your future education’.

Students do art courses at Coláiste Íde to directly develop their craft in fashion or textiles or as a route to art college.  They do security studies as a route to the Gardai or Fire Service as well as the security industry.  Not everybody is aware that a distinction at FETAC is worth 50 points in CAO – or that an  Accounting Technician course at Coláiste Íde may exempt you from part 1 and 2 of the CPA (Certified Public Accountants) programme.

Accounting Technician is a two year level 5 course at Coláiste Íde.  The foundation year covers Financial Accounting I, Law and Ethics, Business Management, Taxation I, Computer Studies, Work Experience. At the end of this two year course you will have up-to-date knowledge of modern accounting practice and will qualify as a professional Accounting Technician.  Those who are both interested and suitably qualified may proceed (with exemptions) to qualify as accountants.

Business Practice, Marketing and Human Resources is a one year level 5 course at Coláiste Íde.
Students will gain a general education in the business studies area, together with a specialised knowledge of marketing and human resource.  Successful candidates may pursue careers at clerical/administration level in human resource or marketing departments or progress to third level.
