Foundations Fundraiser at CDETB Head Office
Staff at CDETB Head Office held a Halloween Bake Sale and Fancy Dress Competition in aid of the CDETB Foundations project.
The Witches of HR were undoubtedly impressive –
but in the end the uncontested winner hailed from IT – the mysterious Incredible Hulk.
Clare Schofield, Foundations Project Co-ordinator and staff member Amy Nyhan spoke to CDETB head office staff at their coffee break about what life is like in emergency B&B’s and hotels for homeless families. The Foundations project offers free After-schools Service, with sports, art, outings and activities to give children space away from the confines of emergency accommodation. About 40 children attend each week. The project also runs an Outreach Children’s Book Club, with donations from DCC Libraries when they take books out of stock. These are distributed to children around some of the emergency accommodations, along with colouring packs and information on the programmes.
Foundations Project always welcomes donations of good quality books and toys for children. CDETB staff were really appreciative of Clare and Amy’s talk and made a pledge to have further collections to support the project.
You can hear a recent item about emergency accommodation on the Sean O’Rourke RTE Radio 1 programme that features the Foundations project HERE
Foundations Project is a CDETB and HSE funded education initiative for people using homeless services. Foundations offer programmes and support services to help people move on from homelessness towards education and training or employment.
All the services are free and are available to anyone who is currently using homeless services, who has experienced homelessness in the past or is at risk of homelessness.
Joining is simple – just phone or ask a staff member to call on your behalf.
