FET: the perfect platform to evolve and upskill

September 20, 2019

Check out some recent media coverage about Further Education and Training.

PLC courses offer an opportunity to find a career without a four year degree commitment. PLCs link directly into employment.  Research shows that people who access higher education after a PLC have a better chance of completing their degree.

Here are some recent interviews with  Solas Chief Executive Andrew Brownlee and Guidance Counsellor Aoife Walsh.

Sixty per cent of school leavers progress to higher education each year. Listen to Solas Chief Andrew Brownlee tell Newstalk’s Sean Moncrief why Ireland is 3rd level education obsessed. Newstalk Sean Moncrief interviews Solas Chief Andrew Brownlee.

And again in this Irish Times article ‘Interesting Careers and earning at an earlier stage’ Brownlee tells Nora-Íde McAuliffe that while FET offers an alternative to higher education – it doesn’t have to be an either/or, option. “Further education and training gives you a great chance of going immediately into employment and starting a career, but also a significant number of learners go into it almost as a foundation to give them a platform to progress into higher education.

And Guidance Counsellor Aoife Walsh gives very helpful insights in this Irish Independent article ‘Why it’s worth looking beyond the CAO’
